M is for Meditation

Excerpt from the book “Who Are You?” (“Qui êtes-vous ?”):
M is for Meditation

“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” Lao Tzu

“Meditation is one of the paths that lead to awakening.” Kunzang

“Meditation trains you to slow down the illusion of time. By slowing down everything you are, you can be present and watch thoughts arise in slow motion; you can slow everything down and switch into ‘debug’ mode, that is, see, step by step, how the entire universe works, see how what you are works.” Brahmadev

The music meditation I have developed allows you to awaken gradually. It is easy, and it brings you back into the present.

Indeed, music is always played “now.” It roots you in the moment, leaving you no room to drift off into the mind. Calm music slows down your breathing and your consciousness: the more you meditate on this music, the more you gradually become the music, the more you “slow down.”

By slowing down, and with practice, you enter into presence; you literally awaken. For awakening is also entering into the presence of the moment. In deep meditation, you literally see all your inner processes unfold, which lets you step back and then look at what is happening within you.

“In the presence of the moment, there are no thoughts at all; then a non-dual, non-conceptual universe opens up to you, and the multidimensional aspect of the universe becomes accessible, along with all its knowledge and all its secrets.” Brahmadev

You have also been conditioned to “enter” whole universes within seconds, thanks to cinema and all those wonderful films. A film’s soundtrack literally carries you away in a matter of moments.

So why not use your ability to shift universes by keeping the music without the images?

This is precisely why music meditations work. What matters is creating mental emptiness. There was no cinema in the Buddha’s time, nor even five hundred years ago. Use modern techniques to wake up: whatever works is good!

“Mental emptiness is consciousness without thought.” Eckhart Tolle

Meditation allows you to reach “mental emptiness.” Then you become one with the music, then you can vibrate at the frequency of the emotions it stirs, then the true “Self” appears. Meditation trains you to let the true Self simply “be,” and it lessens the power given to the persona. That is why the more you meditate, the more you awaken, and the more you train your brain to create space between your thoughts and who you truly are.

During music meditation, if you agree to feel your emotions fully, you gradually free yourself, through altered states of consciousness, through tears, through letting go.

I have put together specific playlists designed to release emotions. The effects come quickly.

Then, if while listening to the music you focus your attention on your heart and on the love you feel for those close to you, this method becomes very powerful and releases blockages and tensions.

Many other techniques are just as valid: mindfulness meditation, transcendental meditation, zazen, and so on.

“To meditate is to look deeply into the heart of things.” Thich Nhat Hanh

“Music roots you in the moment.” Kunzang

“Be here now.” Ram Dass

To integrate this chapter, enter a meditative state and slowly read this mantra aloud:

I choose to take time for myself, for my own growth.

With all my heart, I vow to awaken to my innermost being, to my presence.

I choose to spend time meditating so I can step back from my mind, from the little voice that never stops.

I ask the universe to help me meditate, to bring me the resources and the means to reach a calm mind.

Thank you, life.
